Martin Scorsese

I chose Martin Scorsese as one of the most important directors of American Cinema history because he has a very original style of film; the main topics his movies are about, is gangsters and mafia; like the GoodFellas film or Taxi Driver, both with Robert De Niro, who thanks Scorsese for making of him the actor he is nowadays.

Scorsese had never won an Oscar, although all his great movies that are ranked in the top 100 movies of all history, it was until The Departed (2007) when one of his movies won the Academy Award for best film of the year, something that sounded more like a recognition of his career than anything else.

At 1989 he made a controversial film about Christ, named The Last Temptation of Christ, which was forbidden in many countries such as Mexico. The movie gives a vision of Jesus as a human that does love and is able to hate also; that thinks of temptation and passion like any other human being.

It is said that Scorsese defined the state of american cinema during the 70's and 80's. Because of his childhood beeing raised in Little Italy, NY, he got this influence which provided the scence and inspiration that nowadays is very known for.

His latest film is called " Shutter Island " and its based on the horror/thriller novel by the same name of the movie. It's going to change the way we see him now as an evolved director who doesn't only shoots american gangster movies but without caring the theme of the movie, you'll get to see why scorsese is god for

I like Scorsese's style, he is very classy, and he has a special touch that spreads in all his movies; I can tell he was the guilty on introducing the gangster concept as the way we now know it. Eventough he's getting older by the years, the film industry will always be glad to have him among the best directors of all times.
